Duties

Adjunct faculty are part-time faculty hired to teach on a semester basis. Develop and deliver Workforce Development course offerings specific to Welding. Provides classroom based instruction and student academic support for assigned classes. Performs tasks designed to ensure the quality and consistency of academic instruction. Responsible for providing face to face instruction to local organizations and businesses within HACC’s service region in the area.
Welding instructors are expected to fulfill several planning duties that include developing lesson plans and scheduling classes. Welding instructional materials include textbooks, books and instructional DVDs. Instructors cover the basics through book work and teach hands-on skills in the classroom’s workshop. Instructors offer directions and supervise the use of specialized welding equipment. They also ensure that all equipment adheres to the institution’s and state’s safety regulations. Welding instruction includes teaching entry-level skills in math and measurement, cutting and soldering, while advanced instruction will include teaching shielded metal arc welding (stick), gas tungsten arc welding (tig), oxy fuel cutting, and gas metal arc welding (mig).

Welding instructors help students decide which education path to choose for their welding education including noncredit workforce development classes, diploma and certificate programs depending on the type of welding jobs students wish to pursue after graduation. They also can appraise a student’s skills and determine readiness to sit for certification exams, such as those offered by the American Welding Society (AWS).

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of a certified and/or recognized welding education program. A post-secondary Welding Diploma or Certificate or Journeyman’s Qualification.

3-5 years experience as a welder. At least one AWS Welding certification in either SMAW, GMAW or GTAW.

Qualifications: Preferred Experience

Previous teaching or public speaking experience. AWS qualifications is SMAW, GMAW and GTAW.

PA Act 15 Clearances

As a requirement for this position, you are expected to provide current copies of the following: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check prior to your first day of employment. These must have been obtained within the last 60 months and for the purpose of employment (not volunteer). You may submit current copies of your clearances to the Office of Human Resources at the time an offer of employment is made.
