Duties

Provides academic instruction and student support both in the classroom and online for assigned academic department. Performs tasks designed to ensure the quality and consistency of academic instruction; fulfills faculty duties which include academic advising, college service and professional growth and development.

Minimum Qualifications

- Master’s degree in communications, mass communication, journalism, public relations, visual communication, or other communication discipline/field.

- Able to maintain an office and hold regular office hours.

- Able to teach at least one traditional classroom course per semester.

- Experience teaching and designing 100% online classes.

- Proficiency with instructional design for online content delivery.

- Knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional technologies and learning management systems.

Job Specific Task List

- Teaches assigned courses in Communication program, including the basic public speaking course.

- Identifies and develops courses for program majors at the Harrisburg Campus and for Virtual Learning.

- Participates in curriculum development, maintenance, and assessment.

- Commits to excellence, innovation, and ethical standards in teaching while creating curriculum that meets student learning outcomes within assigned courses.

- Provides academic support and advising to students including establishing and maintaining a schedule of office hours.

- Mentors students in the Communication programs.

- Supports department outreach related to student recruitment activities.

- Participates in college governance by serving on joint, ad hoc, faculty, campus, department, and discipline committees.

- Participates in professional growth activities and maintains awareness of new trends and developments within areas of instructional responsibility.

- Create innovation in a community college environment; build consensus and work collaboratively with others.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Preferred Experience

- Experience in college-level teaching in communications including the basic public speaking course.

- Experience teaching and designing blended/hybrid online classes.

- Proficiency with instructional design for blended/hybrid content delivery.

- Experience developing course curriculum for traditional, blended, and online course delivery.

- Professional experience in the communication field.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of and commitment to the community college mission.

Knowledge of and experience with desktop/laptop computers, mobile learning devices, and office and educational software applications.

Knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional technologies.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
