Duties

Provides academic instruction and student academic support for Math and Computer Science department. Performs tasks designed to ensure the quality and consistency of academic instruction including governance activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• A master’s degree in mathematics or a related field*, with at least 18 graduate credits in mathematics including courses in these areas:
o algebra/group theory/logic (such as abstract algebra or topology), and
o analysis (such as real analysis or complex analysis or functional analysis or probability measure theory)

*Math-related degrees include Mathematics Education, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Engineering

• Willingness to be course qualified to teach computer science within the tenure-track process. (This may require taking additional undergraduate and/or graduate-level college courses.)

• Willingness to teach developmental math courses as part of their regular teaching load

• Willingness to teach day, evening, weekend, and on or off-campus classes

Job Specific Task List

Teaches assigned mathematics courses. Additionally, this position may be assigned some computer science courses.

Participates in curriculum development and maintenance.

Provides academic support and advising to students including establishing and maintaining a schedule of office hours.

Participates in college governance by serving on joint, ad hoc, faculty, campus, department and discipline committees.

Participates in the recruitment and hiring of new faculty through participation on assigned search committees.

Participates in college and community service activities.

Participates in professional growth activities and maintains awareness of new trends and developments within areas of instructional responsibility.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Preferred Experience

● Experience teaching high school and/or college computer science courses similar to those taught at HACC: languages include Visual BASIC, JAVA, C, and C++; concepts include algorithm development, coding, and Object-Oriented Programming

● A master’s degree in mathematics or a related field*, with at least 24 graduate credits in mathematics

*Math-related degrees include Mathematics Education, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Engineering

● College-level teaching experience

● Community college teaching experience

● Experience teaching high school and/or college-level math courses similar to those taught at HACC

● Developmental math teaching experience

● Three years’ of experience in a post-secondary environment including instruction and curricula planning

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of and commitment to the community college mission.

Knowledge of and experience with personal computers and software applications.

Knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional technologies.

Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish positive relationships with students, faculty and staff.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
